1. Data Science Workshop with Ted Dunning, Fraunhofer IAIS and others

GREAT!

We will have the 1. Data Science Workshop the day after Berlin Buzzwords on JUNE 6!

Who is we?

First of all: YOU! Plus Data Science Berlin (https://www.datascienceberlin.org, Berlin chapter of Data Science Global, https://www.datascienceglobal.org), Scout24 and The unbelievable Machine Company (https://www.unbelievable-machine.com), who will host the 1. Data Science Day in Berlin

What is Data Science?

Data scientists combine entrepreneurship with patience, the willingness to build data products incrementally, the ability to explore, and the ability to iterate over a solution. They are inherently interdiscplinary. They can tackle all aspects of a problem, from initial data collection and data conditioning to drawing conclusions. They can think outside the box to come up with new ways to view the problem, or to work with very broadly defined problems: "here's a lot of data, what can you make from it?" (from O´Reilly radar: https://radar.oreilly.com/2010/06/what-is-data-science.html)

What is the goal of our workshop?

We want to bring different people with different perspectives on big data and data science together! It´s a lot about IT but not only! It´s about Technology, Algorithms & AI, Interfaces & Visualisation, Data (of course) and last but not lease about Business needs & projects! Right?

How is it organized?

We´ll have 4-5 short talks in the morning (15 minutes each) and lots of room & time for Q&As after each talk. In the afternoon there´ll be an ideation workshop where we´ll gather a handful of "IWIK"-questions ("I wish I knew...") and discuss them in small multidisciplinary groups with the experts!

Who will talk?

  • Ted Dunning (MapR, Mahout) on "The infrastructure of data"
  • Melanie Knapp (Fraunhofer IAIS) on "The meaning of data"
  • Stephan Thiel (Studio NAND, nand.io) on "The beauty of data"
  • Uwe Draisbach (Hasso-Plattner-Institute Potsdam) on "The importance of high-quality data"
  • Johannes Kleske (Third Wave) on "The ubiquity of data"
  • Klaas Bollhoefer (unbelievable Machine Company) on "Business needs & data"

Where will it happen?

@ Immobilienscout in Berlin, near Ostbahnhof (https://maps.google.de/maps/place?q=immobilienscout+24+berlin&hl=de&cid=1...). Thank you lots!!!

When will it happen?

June 6 from ~10am to 5pm, beer & snacks afterwards

How do I participate?

We are already SOLD OUT after 30 hours or so! :-) for us, :-( for you....Sorry. If you wanna be on our waiting list pls send an email to klaas.bollhoefer(at)unbelievable-machine.com Otherwise - there are other events planned. See you there.

A big big thanks to our sponsors!

Scout 24, MapR, O'Reilly and The unbelievable Machine Company

See you there! Klaas

Trainings

Travelling to Berlin Buzzwords and looking for reasons to extend you stay in town? There are a few companies providing professional trainings on the topics related to Berlin Buzzword right after Berlin Buzzwords:

Want your own trainings listed here? The deal is very simple: Organisation and registration is up to the training provider. If located close to Berlin Buzzwords and related to the conference' main topics we will include your training in our schedule.

Hackathons

We want attendees to stay for the whole week and enable them to deep-dive into their favorite topic. There will be workshops/meetups/hackathons offered before and after the main conference. They are organised by volunteers and hosted by Berlin local companies. Berlin Buzzwords attendees are free to go to any of these after successful registration (free of cost, only to limit the number of attendees). If you want Berlin Buzzwords people to know of your co-located event, please list it below - preferably by creating your own wiki page with all event details and linking to it below (make sure you tag your event with "schedule" and "meetup" so others can find it more easily).

If you are not sure whether your workshop fits into the conference or need help finding a room for it please contact us at info@berlinbuzzwords.de
